Michele Endicott Scholarship for Pre-Service Teachers
Australian Catholic University
In the course of her 25 year career as a Lecturer in Education on ACU's Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo), Dr Michele Endicott was actively involved in both primary and secondary teacher formation in a range of roles, including mentoring of pre-service teachers during school placements and, for a time, Coordinator of the Professional Experience Program and Coordinator of Community Engagement. She was also, in her final years, the Course Coordinator of Initial Teacher Education programs for Indigenous students and was the Tertiary Supervisor for a number of students completing a practicum in a regional, rural or remote setting within Queensland. Understanding the diverse needs of socially and educationally disadvantaged communities far removed from the resources of the capital city, she established this scholarship as a way of encouraging pre-service teachers to contribute to and learn from these communities by spending two or more weeks amongst them while completing a Community Engagement or Professional Experience Placement. It is her hope that more and more ACU Education graduates will then seek to serve the disadvantaged communities of this state when they start their teaching careers.
