Overview

The Magabala Creative Development Scholarships support professional development activities relating to writing, illustration and storytelling, which may result in a manuscript for potential publication. Aboriginal and Torres Strait storytellers, writers and illustrators and artists of any genre are eligible to apply – proposals are welcomed from both emerging and established creators.

How to Apply

  • Fill out this entry form;
  • Write a brief Expression of Interest, addressing the questions on the second page of the form;
  • Attach confirmation of your Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander Identity;
  • Attach writing samples or copies of your illustrations – do not send originals;
  • Attach a good quality (high res) photo of yourself (portrait).
  • Submit all of the above via email to projects@magabala.com

Further Information The financial assistance may include, but is not limited to:

  • Editorial support;
  • Writing, illustration, editorial mentoring fees or workshops;
  • Securing a manuscript assessment or initial edit of a manuscript;
  • Payment of course fees or training expenses (not including university-level fees);
  • Purchasing illustration or writing materials for a specific project;
  • Travel assistance to attend a professional development workshop or experience and;
  • Creator fees up to $1000 to work on a specific project.
