Overview

This scholarship provides housing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who live on campus at JCU Townsville, Bebegu Yumba or JCU Cairns, Nguma-bada Campus. This suite of scholarships are proudly supported by UniLodge, the McCall MacBain Foundation and JCU.

It covers up to $15,000 per year.

How do I apply? Applications must be submitted on the official application form no later than the date set by the Selection Committee for the year in which the award is to be made. Applicants must submit with the official form, where appropriate:

  • Confirmed outcome of ABSTUDY Living Allowance application (approved or declined). Please note that it takes a minimum of 10 business days to receive the outcome of your application for ABSTUDY via Centrelink. In most instances you'll receive an outcome sooner. Your application will not be accepted without the outcome of you ABSTUDY application.

Written Statement of no more than 500 words outlining:

  • What accommodation you have applied to (Burralga Yumba, Rotary International, John Grey Hall or George Roberts);
  • What degree you are studying'
  • Your motivation to complete your tertiary studies;
  • What initiatives you have taken in your community? Volunteer work. Leadership opportunities; and
  • The impact receiving this scholarship would have on your studies.

Applications submitted without the relevant documentation will not be considered. The applicant authorises the Selection Committee to make such enquires as to the applicant's good character and suitability to receive the scholarship, which includes authorization for the Selection Committee to examine the applicant's academic record, and seek opinions from relevant members of the academic staff of this University or any other academic institution.

Eligibility

The Indigenous Student On-Campus Accommodation Scholarships are open for you to apply if you:

  • Identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
  • Are enrolled, or will be enrolled by semester one, as a full-time student at the Townsville, Bebegu Yumba Campus, Douglas or Cairns, Nguma-bada Campus, Smithfield; and
  • Have applied, or intend to apply, to live in either Burralga Yumba, Rotary International, John Grey Hall or George Roberts in a standard room for the full academic year.
