Overview

Established in 2014, the Gill Family Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship is intended to assist students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.

Areas of study: Any Area of Study At Institution: Australian Catholic University Study level: Undergraduate Study Load: Full Time and Part Time Location: VIC

Value

  • The scholarship is valued at $4,000, to be paid in one lump sum
  • There is one scholarship available

Application process Applicants are required to provide the following as part of the application:

  • A written statement of approximately 250 words outlining: how this scholarship could financially support your studies and career aspirations. your participation in community activities through the Jim- Baa-Yer Indigenous Higher Education Unit, that shows your commitment to ACU’s Mission and your community.
  • A letter of recommendation that supports your participation in community activities outlined in your written statement.
  • Evidence of financial hardship, most recent Tax Assessment Notice; or Centrelink Income Statement; or the most recent 60 days of bank transactions AND pay slips from the last 6 weeks
  • Upload Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (for more information on this requirement, please visit, COA)

Selection criteria Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

  • Written statement

  • Commitment to ACU’s Mission and contribution to community service

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (Confirmation of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander status will be required).
  • Campus: Melbourne or Ballarat
  • Course: any ACU undergraduate degree
  • Year Level: second year of course or above (as of semester 1, 2024)
  • Participation in community activities through the Jim- Baa-Yer Indigenous Higher Education Unit
  • Financial hardship
