Cambridge Australia Scholarships

Cambridge Australia Scholarships, formerly known as the Cambridge Australia Trust, is a not-for-profit organisation that provides scholarships for outstanding Australian graduates to undertake Masters and PhD degrees at the University of Cambridge, England. In collaboration with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, Cambridge Australia Scholarships awards up to ten Ph.D scholarships and a number of Masters degree half-scholarships each year. Successful Cambridge Australia scholars, once they have completed their degrees at Cambridge, are known as Fellows of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society. This international network of scholars and Cambridge alumni encompasses all countries supported by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. Around 1000 Australians have been supported by the Cambridge Australia Scholarships (and its predecessor organisation) since establishment in the 1980s.

We do not accept applications directly for Cambridge Australia Scholarships.

By submitting one Graduate Application Form (GAF) per course you will be considered for:

Admission to a course of graduate study or research by the relevant Department or Faculty at Cambridge;

Admission to a College by one or more of the Cambridge Colleges; and

Funding offered by the Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust.

(Note that all scholars at Cambridge are required to be a member of one of the Cambridge Colleges).

Applicants who wish to be considered for funding by Cambridge Australia Scholarships should complete the funding section of the graduate online application (via the Applicant Portal). Only after a conditional offer from the University has been made can a student be considered for a scholarship.

To ensure that you are considered for a CAS scholarship, you must tick the box that reads 'Do you wish to be considered for funding, including merit based scholarship?'

If applicants are successful in obtaining a place at University of Cambridge, they will be given a conditional offer by the Graduate Admissions office. These applicants will then be considered for any awards for which they are eligible, including the Cambridge Australia Scholarships . Interviews are required for Cambridge Australia Masters Scholarships, but are not required, at this point, for other scholarships. Applicants who have been successful in their application for funding will be notified by the end of March (for PhDs) or in June/July (for Masters) for entry in October.

WHEN TO APPLY There are two general course deadlines of early December and early January, depending on which course of study is being applied for. Students are advised to check the course directory to see if their course has a December or January funding deadline.

If you are applying for Graduate study, check your specific course deadline. We request that all applicants check the Graduate Admissions website for closing deadlines. Almost all graduate courses start in October, but, under certain circumstances, it may be possible to start a course of research in the following January or April.

All applicants must:

• Have a Bachelor’s degree with first class Honours, or a Research Master’s degree from a recognised Australian university;
• Be an Australian citizen;
• Have gained admission to Cambridge University to undertake a Masters or PhD degree.
