Overview

COVID-19 Update: Students may receive the McMC Conference grant for in-person or virtual conferences in the U.S. and overseas.

Students awarded the McMC Conference grant for virtual conferences will be reimbursed for any conference fees and, if applicable, membership fees.

Ph.D. students may apply to support travel to recognized professional domestic or international conferences as a presenter (session chair or discussant). The student's presentation must be on an international topic. Students presenting on non-international topics should submit the request for funding to the Graduate Student Assembly Conference Travel Fellowship https://bit.ly/3aAoWIS.

The grant supplements funds that the student can receive from their home department or from the conference if it provides travel subsidies. The grant is available to Ph.D. students in the humanities and social science programs. It is also available to select Ph.D. programs in the professional schools that could have a humanities or a social sciences dimension, such as in Architecture, F&ES, Law, Public Health, and Nursing. Programs in the Biological Sciences (except F&ES, Public Health, and Nursing), Engineering & Applied Science, and the Physical Sciences are not eligible for the grant since they fall outside the MacMillan Center’s mandates. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.

Each Ph.D. student can apply for one Conference Travel Grant per cycle from September 1, 2023- June 15, 2024.

The grant will require a simple application that has to be submitted at least 30 days prior to the conference dates.

Funds will be processed and disbursed as a reimbursement after the necessary receipts have been submitted to the MacMillan Center Business Office. Receipts need to be submitted within 10 days after completing travel, and no reimbursements will be processed after 45 days. Please refer to the Reimbursement Policies and Procedures web page for details.
