Overview

AEIF provides alumni of U.S. government-sponsored and -facilitated exchange programs with funding to expand on skills gained during their exchange experience to design and implement innovative solutions to global challenges facing their community. Since its inception in 2011, AEIF has funded nearly 500 alumni-led projects around the world through a competitive global competition. This year, AEIF 2023 will support the United States’ commitment to improve good governance and help Guatemala become more prosperous and more secure.

The U.S. Embassy in Guatemala will review public service projects proposed and managed by teams composed of at least two (2) alumni that support themes such as:

· Promoting free and credible elections

· Promoting the rule of law and ethics, transparency and anticorruption

· Protecting and supporting human rights

· Improving equitable access to education for youth, especially from regions marked by high rates of irregular migration

· Promoting greater, more equitable access to justice

· Promoting business knowledge and training for entrepreneurs

Eligibility

-Alumni of U.S. Government-funded or U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs (https://alumni.state.gov/list-exchange-programs or https://j1visa.state.gov/). -Project teams must be composed of least two (2) State Department program alumni. -Alumni who are U.S. citizens may not submit proposals; however, U.S. citizen alumni may participate as team members in a project. -Alumni teams may include alumni from different exchange programs and different countries.
