Overview

The Guidera O’Connor Grants would be available to continuing engineering and construction management students studying full-time in one of the following undergraduate programs at the University of South Australia:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) (LHMR)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical and Mechatronic) (LHMR)
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Mechatronic) (LHIF)
  • Bachelor of Construction Management / Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) (XBBE,IBBE, IHCN, XHCM)

UniSA Online applicants should live in Adelaide or in reasonable proximity to Adelaide to satisfy the work placement provisions of the grant.

One of each grant will be offered per year and awarded to one student in their second year, third year, and fourth year eligible program.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the grants, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or similar visa for refugees.
  • Be a second/third/fourth year student.
  • Be enrolled full-time in an eligible engineering or construction management program.
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or above.
  • Provide a written statement clearly addressing the points listed below.
  • Provide statements from two referees as character references, with at least one reference from a referee not connected to the applicant’s secondary school or university.
  • Attend an interview (to be held at Mawson Lakes or City East campus).

Applicants must also agree to attend a four-week paid work placement at Guidera O’Connor. This is an opportunity for recipients to engage with a leading Australian company providing design and construction services to the Australian water industry.

Applicants must provide: A written statement (500-750 words) detailing:

  • Reasons for studying an engineering or construction management degree.
  • Future career goals and personal aspirations.
  • The engineering or construction management stream/s that interests them (for example, for mechanical engineering – general mechanical, manufacturing mechanics or mechatronic (control, automation).
  • Interest in attending a paid work placement at Guidera O’Connor and what they would like to achieve during placement.
  • Academic standing and achievements.
  • Work experience, community involvement and extracurricular activities/interests.

The grants will be awarded based on the written statement outlining why the applicant would be a worthy recipient, referee reports and interview performance.

If‚ in the view of the selection panel‚ no applicant is sufficiently meritorious‚ no award shall be made.

Recipients can receive a Guidera O’Connor Grant in future years (grant recipients are not prevented from applying for the Third Year or Fourth Year Grant in subsequent years).

Students may be in receipt of another scholarship or grant administered by UniSA.

Value: $5,000 Two equal instalments of:

  • $2,500.00 after Study Period 2 census date
  • $2,500.00 after Study Period 5 census date

Payment of second installment is subject to recipient;

  • Maintaining enrolment
  • Maintaining satisfactory academic progress and a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 or above
