MARK W. PINCKARD RENAISSANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Union County Community Foundation
This non-renewable scholarship was established through the generosity of the community of El Dorado and the friends and family of Mark Wesley Pinckard to honor his memory in perpetuity. It is not limited to any particular university or college.
Application Requirements:
- Scholarship application.
- Cumulative high school transcript through most recent term. (Must include ACT or SAT score).
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a school official (administrator, teacher, coach) and one from an adult other than a family member.
- One single page typewritten essay. The essay shall reflect how experiences and relationships through high school have deepened the student’s moral values, broadened his/her understanding of cultural diversity and heightened his/her awareness of the human spirit. The essay must evidence character, integrity and tolerance. Essays shall not focus merely on accomplishments, activities or awards (which are listed separately in the appropriate area of the application).
This scholarship is awarded annually to at least one recipient who is a graduating senior of El Dorado High School. The criteria to be used by the Advisory Committee in selection of scholarship recipient(s) shall include but not be limited to, academic merit, character, leadership ability and financial need. Recipients will be selected from students who have demonstrated academic excellence and proficiency in at least one additional discipline: fine arts; athletics; and/or music. Preference will be given to students who have participated in three or more of the following: 1) drama, 2) soccer, 3) band, 4) jazz band, 5) community/volunteer service, 6) part-time employment. Applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. Applicants must also have passed at least one AP exam with a score of 3 or higher.
