Overview

Douglas Bomford descended from a long-established Worcestershire farming family, and from a branch of that family which helped pioneer the mechanisation of many basic farming operations. The objective of the Trust is to advance knowledge, understanding, practice, and competence in the application of engineering and technology to achieve sustainable agricultural, food and biological systems for the benefit of the environment and mankind.

The Trust provides funding to enable competent individuals and organisations to pursue: -Education, training, research and knowledge transfer. -Innovation and the application of science and technology with respect to the design, development, evaluation and construction of machines, systems and techniques. -Travel to acquire or disseminate knowledge. -The development or acquisition of new skills, techniques and capabilities. -The development and maintenance of professional competencies. (Including Membership of IAgrE (Institution of Agricultural Engineers) for students on relevant courses or research programmes.)

Applications should state clearly but briefly:

  • Why is the project necessary? What the funding is required for?
  • What are the expected outcomes/benefits of the project - considering both the Trust's objectives and personal development?
  • How the project will be carried out, together with timescales.
  • What resource are required? eg: expertise, equipment and facilities.
  • An outline budget : including course fees, stipend/living/travel, materials, contribution to overheads, staff and other costs
  • Any funding that has been obtained/applied for from other sources.
  • Any other individuals/organisations involved.
  • The main risks to successful completion.
  • Details of the ‘parent’ organisation or institution and, where appropriate, the project supervisor.
Eligibility

To be eligible, individuals must:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the objectives to the Trust
  • Demonstrate that all appropriate sources of funding are being pursued
  • Indicate the benefits or outcomes that Trust funding will achieve both personally, and towards the overall objectives of the Trust
  • Demonstrate the ability and intention to achieve those outcomes
  • Have some connection with the United Kingdom through nationality, residency, or place of learning/registration.

If the application is on behalf of an organisation, it must either have charitable status or the funding must be for charitable purposes.
