Albert Cooper Music Charitable Trust

The Albert Cooper Music Charitable Trust was founded in 2002.

Our founder member, Albert William Cooper (1913-2007) left a legacy in his Will to the Charity to benefit a young person playing the violin, viola, or cello

The Charity provides funds for tuition; help towards the purchase of an instrument; some living expenses incurred whilst in full time or postgraduate education/studies at a recognised music college/university in the U.K. We support students from 18-21 years of age. The charity can only accept applications from those in full time study and holding a UK bank account. We pay all successful applications their grant/award by bank transfer.

Applicants should be aged between 18 – 21 and studying full time with a recognised music college

The Trust requires the following information from all applicants who wish to be considered for a grant:

1 Personal summary of why you should be given a grant.

2 CV.

3 Names and addresses of 2 referees or a copy of references.

[The referee can email direct using the email address below if they wish] 4 Copies of any acceptance letters from colleges/universities and any awards received.

5 A YouTube video should be at least 20 minutes in duration, showcasing 2 or more pieces.

6 All successful applicants will be required to attend an audition - when Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

The trustees would like all applicants to bring two contrasting pieces of their own choice, with or without accompaniment. We would like all applicants to feel free in their choice to show us why they deserve support from the Trust, so it is important to choose music that gives us a chance to evaluate your musical skills, both in terms of technique but equally if not more important, musicianship. The word 'contrasting' is yours to interpret, we are not expecting fast/slow; baroque/romantic; it is up to you. We try to make the auditions as informal as possible, to give every applicant a chance to perform to the best of their ability. (Please Note:- we are unable to supply an accompanist).

We are looking for applicants with a high level of achievement but also an equal degree of potential, in their future studies and career.

Auditions will be about 30 minutes in duration followed by a 10 minute informal interview.
