Stafford Borough Sports Grants
The Stafford Borough Sports Grants scheme allocates funds to talented sports performers, local sports clubs and local sports coaches. They have three different pots available for people to apply to, depending on their requirements. This fund will award grants to organisations who provide facilities or services for people in the geographical area covered by Stafford Borough Council. In order for your application to have the best chance of being approved by the panel, ensure that you read the criteria down below.
About the Stafford Borough Sports Grants Scheme
Grants of up to £1,000 are available.
The Stafford Borough Sports grants are open voluntary, non-profit making organisations, local sports clubs and more. The aim of the fund is to encourage and support organisations that offer sporting activities to residents of the Stafford borough.
Assistance to applicant will be considered for the following purposes:
- Acquisition of land or buildings for sports use
- Improvement of land or buildings for sports use (eg new training areas, re-surfacing, changing accommodation)
- Purchase of major items of sports equipment
- Purchase of major items of maintenance equipment
- Purchase of equipment and material for specific projects to increase participation in sport
- Other purposes will be considered on merit
Each funding stream will have detailed terms and conditions that will be issued as part of the grant process.
Grant Criteria:
Coaching Fund: This fund is to assist individuals coaching within the Borough with the costs involved in undertaking a coaching certificate.
- Cannot apply more than once every 3 years
- Apply for up to 50% of costs which does not exceed £1000.
Sports Grant Aid/ Loan Aid: Local sports clubs and organisations can apply to this fund if they require money for things such as new equipment or improvements to their buildings or facilities.
- Cannot apply more than once every 4 years
- Apply to loan up to 50% of the project costs not exceeding £1500
- An award may also be offered as a loan
Scholarship Fund: The Scholarship fund is in place to offer financial support to individuals who are in full time education and live within Stafford Borough and compete at county level or above in their chosen sport.
Scholarships are awarded up to £250, this will be paid in a lump sum and will need to be spent within 6 months of the award.

Documents That Must Be Submitted With Your Application
The following documents must be provided with your application form. If you fail to provide these documents your application will not be considered for funding. All documents should be submitted at the time of application.
Coaching Award:
- Receipt confirming cost of attendance on the course
- We would ask for a letter of support from the sports organisation for the coaching element Further guidance on these supporting documents is contained within the application form.
Sports Loan Aid:
- Governing document
- Accounts
- Bank statement
- Safeguarding & Prevent policy
- Equality policy
- Public liability insurance
- Evidence of purchase of goods

Types of Organisation We Will Fund:
We will support the following types of organisation;
- Voluntary, non-profit making groups with membership that is open to all.
- Local sports clubs and organisations.
- Coaching – Members part of an affiliated sports organisation.
Types of Organisation We Cannot Fund:
Please note that we cannot fund organisations that have received SBC funding in the last three years.
This fund will not offer funding to the following organisations;
- Statutory agencies and public sector bodies.
- Organisations or projects with a statutory responsibility.
- Organisations who may qualify for assistance from sport, Stafford Borough and Stafford District Art Council (to avoid duplication of Borough Council funding).
- Party political activities.
- Not for the promotion of religious causes.
- Medical research and animal welfare.
Geographic Reach We Will Fund:
We will support organisations based in, or working for the benefit of people in the following local authority areas;
- Stafford
Geographical Reach We Cannot Fund:
This fund cannot support organisations who are based in, or working in the following local authority areas;
- Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle under Lyme, South Staffordshire, Staffordshire Moorlands, Stoke on Trent or Tamworth
- Any area outside Staffordshire
Beneficiaries We Can Support:
In order to qualify for a grant from this scheme your project must be supporting the following types of beneficiary;
- People resident in Stafford borough, including Stone and the surrounding villages
- Sports performers
- Up and coming sports talent
- Sports clubs
- Sports coaches
