Overview

Science needs to reach out to the public. But scientists often struggle when facing the media. The SNSF offers practice-oriented courses for researchers - from media coaching through to video production.

The SNSF will be offering media training in English from 2022 onwards.

Science must be made public

Media training courses are aimed at interested researchers in Switzerland who would like to improve their skills in dealing with the media. In the SNSF courses, you will learn and practice making a strong impression in the mass media with experienced editors and journalists. Both in front of the camera and microphone as well as in dealing with print media, social media as well as in video interviews and video conferences. You will develop simple and concise language that will generate interest and highlight the true value of your research.

In the one-day media training in a small group, you will learn how to deal with media professionals and present your core message in front of the camera and microphone in an understandable and convincing way. The focus of the training is on television interviews. However, the course content is also useful for interviews with radio stations and print media as well as for oral presentations (lectures, web conferences, etc.). While English will be the language of tuition, the thematic focus will lie on allowing researchers from abroad to practice interviews in one of the Swiss national languages.

The SNSF supports these courses in a partnership with Stiftung Mercator Schweiz. The courses are aimed at researchers who have at least some initial research experience at postdoc level and who are supported by the SNSF or Stiftung Mercator Schweiz. The offer is also open to other advanced scientists.
