Overview
  1. Purpose

The Manning Seed Award has been provided by Lincoln University Foundation through funding from Selwyn and Mary Manning, and is intended to encourage education and research in the field of seed science and seed technology for the benefit of New Zealand.

  1. Number/Value

One or more scholarships may be available in any year, the value of which shall be determined annually by the board of the Lincoln University Foundation.

Eligibility

Eligibility

(1) The scholarship shall be open to people who are eligible to undertake full time postgraduate research study at Lincoln University into any issue associated with seed science and seed technology in New Zealand. (2) A scholarship may be awarded to a person who is not eligible to register as a full time research student at Lincoln University provided he or she becomes eligible to so register by 1 March in the year following the awards, or by such other date as may be determined by the Selection Committee in a particular case. (3) If a candidate awarded a scholarship under 3(2) above does not become eligible to register for a research degree at Lincoln University by 1 March or by the date determined under the provisions of 3(2) above, then the award will lapse.

Selection Criteria

The criteria for selection shall be (1) Academic merit. (2) The importance of the proposed research to seed science for the benefit of New Zealand.

Tenure

The tenure of the scholarship for a PhD candidate is subject to the following conditions. (1) A PhD scholarship shall be tenable for a maximum of three years from the commencement date of the tenure of the scholarship, unless the candidate is already registered for a PhD as stated in 6 (3) below. The current value of a PhD scholarship is $25,000 per annum. (2) The tenure of the scholarship shall begin at the commencement of the Semester immediately following the award. (3) Where an applicant for a scholarship has been registered for the relevant degree of study prior to the commencement of the scholarship, the tenure of the scholarship shall be reduced by the period the applicant has already been registered for that degree.

The tenure of the scholarship for a Masters or Honours degree candidate shall be for a maximum of one calendar year and shall begin at the commencement of the semester immediately following the award. The current value is $10,000pa
