Overview

Cost of Living grants are normally provided for an agreed timeframe, to enable the applicant to consider what other options might be available to enable them to support themselves in the longer term. Grants will normally be awarded due to sudden loss of work, eg: illness, hospitalisation, bereavement, pregnancy and childbirth.

These grants can include help with:

  • Housing costs
  • Travel costs
  • Utility bills
  • Moving costs

If you have household goods urgently in need of replacement, we may be able to help provide these. e.g: fridges, washing machines, etc.

Applications are assessed approx every 6 weeks. The next grants decision will be made by mid-December 2022.

Eligibility

You are welcome to apply for a Cost of Living grant if you find yourself in financial difficulties during your dance career (if you are retired or semi-retired from professional dance work, please see the guidance ‘In Retirement’). Cost of Living grants are normally provided within in certain timeframe, to enable people to consider what other options might be available to support them in the longer term. Please note these grants are intended for individuals whose financial situation has changed due to extenuating circumstances, such as an unexpected medical diagnosis. Being unable to find professional dance work will not be considered a reason in itself. Advice on benefits and other support are available on this site. Examples of situations we can help with:

  • Those with liabilities prior to change of circumstances this cannot now be met easily. With terminal illness, we will aim to support for the duration of the illness.

  • Those on a low income for longer than expected, e.g. due to injury, meaning cost of essential outgoings have not been met, such as utility bills.

  • Others facing a change of circumstances, such as divorce and particularly if there are children involved. If your home is at risk, see also Crisis Grants.

Please note this list is by no means exclusive and so please get in contact if you wish to discuss your situation prior to making an application, by phone or email – 01273 327119 or application@dancefund.org.uk.
