The John James Charitable Trust was founded over 20 years ago by a Christian businessman from Leeds.
Grants are available to provide support for individuals and organisations with a Christian focus, as well as funding for ministry training.
The overall aims of the Trust are as follows:
- Promote education in the Christian faith amongst children and young people.
- Support people in training for Christian ministry.'
No minimum or maximum value of grant is specified. The average grant is £2,000.
Applications can be made at any time.
Students and ministry trainees should apply by the annual deadline of 31 May.

Applications are accepted from Christian individuals (including students and ministry trainees) and registered charities.
Applications should be for work which aligns with the following charitable objects:
- Promote the advancement of education in the Christian religion amongst children and young people and the advancement of physical education amongst children and young people so as to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities and so as to ensure that they grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society.
- Advance the Christian faith and in particular (but without limiting the foregoing) by providing assistance to clergy, missionaries, ordinands, Church Army personnel or lay people engaged in a specific ministry to advance the Christian religion who are undertaking training in relation to their ministry by the provision and maintenance of scholarships and grants for such persons.
- Relieve poverty (and any distress arising therefrom) created by sudden or unexpected circumstances affecting clergy or their families, missionaries or Christian lay people serving at home or overseas.
- Promote any other charitable purpose which the Trustees may deem appropriate having regard primarily to the above.
- Relieve poverty, advance religion, promote education and do all such other things beneficial to the community as may be charitable under the laws of England and Wales.
Preference will be given to projects which:
- Are not able to get support elsewhere.
- Are sustaining and encouraging over a period of time.
- Are supported by the local church and wider network.
- Make a difference.
- Make Christ known.
- Show a long term commitment for Christian ministry.
