Overview

The Flexible Plastic Fund is provided by Ecosurety and environmental charity Hubbub with support from manufacturers Mars UK, Mondelēz International, Nestlé, PepsiCo and Unilever.

The fund seeks to improve the rate of recycling of 'flexible' plastic items including bags, wrappers, films, pouches, packets and sachets. The manufacturers have mobilised the fund to help achieve this by guaranteeing a minimum value of £100 per tonne of recycled material.

It is intended that recyclers will turn the collected plastic into non-food grade plastic and film and some food-grade film.

The fund has a total value of £1 million to support flexible plastic recycling initiativ.

Support may be accessed at any time.

Details of the available support can be found at the Flexible Plastic Fund website.

Eligibility

Businesses, retailers and recyclers based in the United Kingdom are eligible to participate.

The Flexible Plastic Fund will work to deliver full traceability of exported plastics, from collection through to the creation of new products. The scheme will only pay recyclers if proof is provided. Manufacturers contributing to the fund will then be able to access the Packaging Recovery Notes (PRNs) generated by the scheme.
