Overview

The Business Renewable Energy Fund is provided by Carmarthenshire County Council. The purpose of the fund is to support local businesses to be sustainable and to provide assistance for them to grow and prosper while helping them on their net zero carbon journey Capital grants are available to businesses in Carmarthenshire towards the purchase of renewable energy systems for their business premises.

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available, covering a maximum of 50% of total project costs.

All expenditure associated with the grant must be completed within four months of the date of an approval letter. Applicants must identify at least 50% of their total project costs from other sources

The grant will apply to capital expenditure within an approved project and can include:

Power Systems

Small scale, single wind turbine. Solar photovoltaic panels (roof mounted/ground mounted). Solar photovoltaic battery. Grid linked battery storage system (where the tariff is with a renewable energy supplier). Hydro-electric. Heating Systems

Air Source Heat Pump (Air to water and air to air). Ground Source Heat Pump (vertical, horizontal, diagonal and radial). Solar thermal panels (roof mounted/ ground mounted). Note: Installers and equipment must be MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from new or existing businesses located in or planning to locate within Carmarthenshire.

Support is aimed primarily at existing businesses, operating in, or servicing the following growth and foundation sectors:

  • Advanced Materials and Manufacturing.
  • Construction.
  • Creative Industries.
  • Energy and Environment.
  • Finance and Professional Services.
  • Information Technology and Telecoms.
  • Life Sciences.
  • Food & Drink.
  • Tourism.
  • Retail.
  • Care.

Applicants must either:

  • Own the freehold, or
  • Hold a lease with a seven-year minimum period remaining after the final grant payment date. Applicants must secure their landlord's written consent for the proposed works.

The following business sectors are ineligible for support:

  • Primary agriculture production.
  • Forestry.
  • Aquaculture.
  • Fishing.
  • Statutory services, eg health and education.

Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis until the total fund is fully allocated.
