Overview

The Sir Nicholas Goodison Award is provided by Art Fund.

This award was created in recognition of Sir Nicholas Goodison's outstanding contribution to the work of Art Fund and the wider museum sector, and his love of contemporary craft

The funding is intended to support the next generation of ambitious contemporary craft curators in the UK.

A single financial award of up to £60,000 is available, to fund up to 100% of the costs of a focused collecting project. The awardee will also receive a funding allocation for research, travel and training, together with the support of a mentor and the Art Fund team.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from UK-based curators who are:

  • In the early stages of their career, or who have had limited opportunities to collect.
  • Employed by or working in partnership with museums and galleries that are accredited or working towards accreditation.

Art Fund will also consider applications from freelance curators or researchers, providing they can demonstrate that they will be officially affiliated with a museum or gallery for the duration of their project, that the works acquired will join a public collection and that the applicant's participation will have a longer-term institutional impact.

Art Fund particularly welcomes applications where the aim is to:

  • Diversify representation in collections.
  • Make collections and narratives more relevant to audiences and communities

Guidance notes and the online application portal can be accessed from the Art Fund website.
