Matthew Bacon Bursary Fund
Army Cadet Charitable Trust
The Matthew Bacon Bursary Fund enables young people to take part in an Outward Bound Trust (OBT) 19 day adventure, which would otherwise be beyond their financial means.
The fund helps Army Cadets that may have experienced a difficult beginning, are from a disadvantaged background or lack self-confidence, helping them to develop important life skills that will impact positively on their emotional health and wellbeing. Through their Outward Bound Trust challenge they are able to participate in life changing adventures, build new friendships and improve their mental health and wellbeing.
The fund was set up in memory of Major Matthew Bacon, an officer in the Intelligence Corps, killed whilst on tour in Iraq by a roadside bomb on 11th September 2005. In Matthew’s honour, his family set up the Fund to help disadvantaged young Cadets to develop and achieve.
Each Cadet awarded the Fund is encouraged to raise a personal contribution of £255 through fundraising. Full support and advice on fundraising will be given.
