Overview

The Welsh Government has confirmed funding for the bursary scheme for academic year 2022/23*

The Welsh Government has confirmed funding for another year to attract Welsh domiciled students to complete their master’s degree through the medium of Welsh. Each bursary is worth £1,000.

The bursary is available for:

  • Full 180 credit taught master’s degree programmes through the medium of Welsh. The Welsh medium component of the programme must be worth 40 credits or more
  • Welsh-medium qualified master's programmes starting in academic year 2022/23
  • Students from Wales
  • Full-time and part-time courses
  • Students of all ages
  • Students who choose to study a qualifying course in science, technology, engineering, maths or medicine could also receive an additional bursary of £2,000. Further details are here.

If you are over 60, additional bursary funding may be available. Further details are here.

This funding is in addition to the postgraduate funding scheme in place for Welsh students in academic year 2022/23.

Eligibility

In principle, all of the University's taught master's courses are eligible for this bursary as long as a student can study an element through the medium of Welsh. Many departments within the University are currently developing and offering Welsh-medium or bilingual modules within their courses, so you need to discuss the possibilities with the appropriate Program Director. A student may study a module (s) through the medium of Welsh or submit their master's level dissertation in Welsh in order to gain eligibility for this bursary.

Note: Students funded by other government funding such as Social Care Wales, NHS/HEIW, DHSSPS or Research Councils (KESS II) will not be eligible.
